Mr KAN Tai Keung, SBS, BBS, Designer / Artist

Dr. Kan Tai-keung was born in 1942 in China and has resided in Hong Kong since 1957. First studying art and design in 1964, Kan started his design career in 1967. His works won him numerous prestigious awards around the world. Since 1969, Kan has never stopped exploring his own way in art and ink painting. He played an important role in the New Ink Movement in 1970s.

 

In 1979, Kan was one of the "Hong Kong Ten Outstanding Young Persons". Other important awards included Award of Urban Council Fine Art (1981), Gold Awards, International Art Competition, Los Angeles (1984), 1st Prize in the 1st International Computer Art Biennale in Rzeszów, Poland (1995) and the outstanding Artists and Designers of the 20th Century in Britain (2000). He was conferred the Honour of Bronze Bauhinia Star (2009) and later the Honor of Silver Bauhinia Star (2010). In 2005, he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Design in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

 

 His works have received critical acclaim, being frequently exhibited around the world and collected by many prominent museums. He was the first dean of Shantou University Cheung Kong Art and Design School (2003-2011), and now a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale, an advisor of the Leisure & Cultural Services Department, and the honorary advisor of Hong Kong Museum of Art.
