Diplomat and culture manager, music producer and publisher, Paweł Potoroczyn is the Director of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute since 2008. He began his career in public service in 1992 as President of the Polish Information Agency and started his diplomatic service as Cultural Consul at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Los Angeles. He was the Founder and first Director of the Polish Cultural Institute in New York, and Director of the Polish Cultural Institute in London from 2005.
Director Potoroczyn has talked about Polish culture in an interview, he said “Poland is no tourist hotpot and this is largely due to our fickle weather. The care aspect of Poland’s attractiveness is our culture”. To define the culture of a city or a country is difficult or impossible. This is also the problem Director Potoroczyn has when defining what Polish culture is. However, he can confidently tell us what the core values of Polish culture, that are, “Individualism, an instinct for freedom, unparalleled creativity” (WyWiad, “Poland’s Culture at its Best”). Paweł Potoroczyn is the Director of Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Poland. Adam Mickiewicz Institute, which is a Poland's international cultural relations body, has launched a very interesting project, “I, Culture”, aiming to promote Polish culture aboard. Four hundred events, including classical music, theatre, streets arts and the like, have been organized in ten capitals since 2011. Asian countries including China, Japan are Korea are also one of their destinations.
