Many arts organizations nowadays have set up their arts learning / community arts arms, aiming to promote the arts while developing new audiences. Beyond offering performances during school assemblies and workshops focusing on the training of arts skills, are there other innovative ways of connecting with the community and cultivating new demand for the arts?
The legendary dance group, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, founded by Mr Lin Hwai-Min, is not only known internationally for its evocative and original dance performances; the Company has also done extraordinary work in bringing arts to the people through its dance school, workshops, lecture-demonstrations and residency projects, reaching out to young children, students, elders and grass root communities, and even to survivors from areas devastated by the mega typhoon in 2009.
Ms Yeh Wenwen, Executive Director of The Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, and Ms Erin Liao, Company Manager of Cloud Gate 2, will reveal the Group’s approach to education and community engagement work, and will share their insightful ideas in forming original and creative programmes for the community, engaging people from age 3 to 88.
