Interflow Programme: The British approach to corporate sponsorship and private giving, and the award winning success of the Hallé Orchestra
In collaboration with Hong Kong Arts Festival
Hallé Orchestra is Britain's longest-established professional symphony orchestra, founded in Manchester by Sir Charles Hallé in 1858. The Hallé has been performing classical music in Manchester, around Britain and abroad for more than 150 years. Despite its long history, the Orchestra has been making efforts todevise innovative programmes to engage corporate sponsors. The Orchestra has recently won a UK Arts & Business People Development Award with Siemens to integrate the Hallé’s music and the firm’s internal projects.
The Chief Executive of Hallé Concerts Society, Mr. John Summers, is going to share with arts practitioners at this talk and networking event, the award winning success of Hallé Orchestra in corporate engagement.

Both a professionally trained musician and an experienced arts administrator, John Summer is currently the Chief Executive of Hallé Concerts Society. Prior to joining the Hallé in 1999, John worked at the Northern Sinfonia from 1981-99, as manager and cellist, ending up as Chief Executive in 1992. From 1976 to 1981, he was a freelance cellist working with The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera, The Northern Sinfonia and various other orchestras and ensembles. He was also involved in orchestral administration and cello teaching.
John’s other appointments have included Lead Advisor on Music to the Arts Council of England (2003-2005), Member of the Board of the Association of British Orchestras, with special responsibility for education (1991-1998) and Chairman, the Association of British Orchestras (1995-1998).
