Wakefield Theatre Royal closed until spring 2021

Bosses at the Drury Lane venue say they have made the decision due to the ongoing uncertainty over when public performances will be able to resume in England.

Katie Town, the theatre's Executive Director said: "Like many other theatres, Theatre Royal Wakefield relies heavily on the income from Pantomime and associated activities during the festive season.

"However, given we still have no clear idea when we'll be able to re-open for public performances, and the fact the process for accessing the £1.57bn of emergency funding for the arts has only just been unveiled, we feel the risk of proceeding at this stage is too high."

The theatre says most of the autumn programme, including the pantomime, has been rescheduled to 2021 and customers with tickets booked for shows in 2020 will be contacted about dates for their performances.
