The Arts-ray Series: Making it happen – how touring theatre in the UK is changing

For a long time, for the theatre community in the UK, the challenge of touring which had been about artists producing more work and touring more. However the touring model has taken a dynamic shift away from financial drivers in recent years. Some companies started to explore the digital platform to strengthen the relationship between artists, venues and audience, empowering the economic, artistic and organizational development of the company. Supporting artists and building audiences become the new goals which pave way to meet the third ambition: creating resilience.

A workshop co-presented by the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and the Hong Kong Arts Administrators Association, Ms. Rachel Tackley, Director of English Touring Theatre, will talk about what is the trend of touring in UK - how has it changed over the years and what lies in its future?

She will also share her insights on how she made English Touring Theatre (ETT) into a leading touring theatre company as well as the first producer-led touring company in UK since her taking over of its directorship in 2008. What are the key issues to be considered when touring locally in UK and across the world? How does a touring theatre company make itself viable?
