2 December 2013 (Monday)
Hong Kong City Hall Theatre
Presented by Musicus Society

Breguet’s Celebration of Excellence - Chamber Music Gala presents an evening of the most celebrated masterpieces in the genre, bringing together international and Hong Kong talents to perform works of great complexity and intimacy. Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio in D Minor, written at the peak of his musical career, overflows with grace and eloquence with broad Schubertian melodies. As one of his final creations, the C Major String Quintet is Schubert’s finest work - one infused with a sense of transcendent consummation. The concert will also feature Virpi Räisänen singing a selection of art songs by later Romantics Johannes Brahms and Jean Sibelius.

About Musicus Fest

"The career of a professional musician has always encompassed a multitude of roles, going from the concert hall into the teaching studio, and venturing out into the wider community; the musician’s work can take place in intimate historic sites as well as vast modern venues. In this spirit, Musicus Fest incorporates a holistic approach to music making and the musicians themselves."
—      Trey Lee, Artistic Director

Musical Encounters between Hong Kong and the World
Musicus Fest is a meeting point for artists from Hong Kong and the world to interact and inspire future generations. Great artists are not only born with great talent, they are also influenced by their peers and those who have come before them, inheriting traditions and knowledge passed down from previous generations. Musicus Fest will give Hong Kong young performers and students what their counterparts elsewhere have long enjoyed: a chance to elevate themselves to a higher level of artistic excellence through meaningful interaction with distinguished artists from different parts of the world.

The festival is comprised of three connected parts: Musicus Onstage will bring world-class local and overseas artists together in Hong Kong for enthralling performances; Musicus Inspires! will cultivate young performers and students in Hong Kong who may someday become leaders in the arts themselves; and Musicus Heritage will apply music's capacity to help us understand and appreciate our world better, be it in a historical context or in collaboration with other art forms, by bringing the artists out of the concert hall and into the Hong Kong community.
